Saudi Arabia and Qatar signed an agreement Monday to build a high-speed electric passenger railway connecting their capitals, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
The 785-kilometer line will link King Salman International Airport in Riyadh with Hamad International Airport in Doha. Trains will exceed speeds of 300 kilometers per hour, cutting travel time between the two cities to about two hours.
Officials said the project, scheduled for completion in six years, is expected to serve 10 million passengers annually and create 30,000 jobs across both countries.
The agreement was signed during Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani’s visit to Riyadh.
