A low-pressure system named Barbara, currently centred over the northern Aegean, is moving northeast and is expected to affect Cyprus from Wednesday evening.
Tonight
Cloud cover will increase across the island, with isolated showers expected initially in western areas. Rainfall will become more widespread after midnight, accompanied by isolated thunderstorms. Some storms may bring hail and gusty winds.
Winds will be predominantly southwesterly, occasionally northwesterly, ranging from light to moderate (3–4 Beaufort), strengthening to moderate or strong (4–5 Beaufort) in windward coastal regions.
Sea conditions will vary: slightly rough in the west and north, calm to slightly rough in the south and east, becoming rougher overnight. Temperatures will fall to 16°C inland, 18°C along the coast, and 10°C in mountainous areas.
Wednesday
The unsettled weather will persist, with mostly cloudy skies and intermittent showers. Isolated thunderstorms remain possible. Winds will strengthen significantly, reaching strong to very strong levels (5–6 Beaufort), especially in exposed areas.
Temperatures will rise to 27°C inland and along southeastern and eastern coasts, 25°C in western and northern coastal areas, and 17°C in the mountains. Seas will be generally rough, particularly in western regions.
Wednesday Night
Cloudy conditions will continue, with scattered showers and a chance of isolated thunderstorms, mainly in coastal areas. Winds will remain southwesterly to northwesterly, light to moderate inland (3–4 Beaufort), and moderate to strong (4–5 Beaufort) along the coast.
Eastern seas will be slightly rough, while other coastal waters may be rough, especially in the west.
Outlook
Thursday will remain mostly cloudy with localised showers and isolated thunderstorms. Temperatures will drop, particularly inland and in mountainous areas, falling below seasonal averages.
Friday will see periods of increased cloud cover, with a chance of isolated showers. By Saturday, conditions are expected to improve, with mostly clear skies and only patchy cloud. Temperatures will gradually rise, remaining slightly below average for the time of year.
