FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – The launch of mobile desalination units donated by the United Arab Emirates to support Limassol’s water supply has been pushed back by three weeks due to technical problems.
The units are now expected to be operational by late July.
George Kazantzis, deputy director of the Water Development Department, said work crews are operating seven days a week under difficult conditions to expedite the project’s completion.
“All problems are being resolved, but there is a slight delay,” Kazantzis said, adding that additional groundwater sources in Kouris Delta and Germasogeia are being activated to compensate for the temporary water shortfall.
He described the project as highly complex, with daily technical challenges being addressed in coordination with the contractor. Officials are also in constant communication with the UAE-based manufacturer to resolve remaining issues.
