KAMCHATKA — A magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck off the eastern coast of Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula early Saturday, according to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ). The quake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage, but authorities are monitoring the situation closely. The region is part of the seismically active Pacific Ring of Fire and frequently experiences strong earthquakes.
