PARIS — Fitch Ratings downgraded France’s long-term credit rating to A+ with a stable outlook, citing prolonged political instability and fiscal uncertainty that continue to hinder efforts to restore the country’s strained public finances.
The agency pointed to the recent collapse of the French government following a failed confidence vote, describing it as evidence of deepening fragmentation and polarization in domestic politics.
“This instability weakens the political system’s capacity to deliver substantial fiscal consolidation,” Fitch said.
