FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – The Committee on Missing Persons in Cyprus (CMP) has received a €208,423 contribution from Switzerland, marking the third installment of the country’s CHF1 million support package covering 2023 to 2026.

With this latest donation, Switzerland’s total financial assistance to CMP since 2014 reaches €1,056,875.

The 2025 installment will strengthen the Committee’s training and genetic analysis capabilities as part of its ongoing efforts to identify and repatriate the remains of missing individuals. The CMP’s work aims to provide closure to families affected by decades of uncertainty.

Founded in 1981 under UN auspices, the CMP operates as a bi-communal initiative between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities. The project became fully operational in 2006 and is co-funded by the European Union. So far, the remains of 1,054 missing persons have been recovered and returned for dignified burials.

Donor support remains critical to the CMP’s success, with Switzerland among the key contributors to this humanitarian mission.
