Syrian President Ahmad Shar’a said Saturday that Aleppo will serve as the country’s main economic gateway and a central pillar of reconstruction following the lifting of international sanctions.

In a video address to participants in the “Aleppo for All” campaign, Shar’a said the coming phase places “major responsibilities” on the city’s residents to lead Syria’s commercial and economic revival.

He said Aleppo’s size, history and industrial base position it to take a leading regional role, not only a national one.

Shar’a urged residents to focus first on eliminating poverty in Aleppo before expanding efforts to other provinces, saying the city has long been known for its economic strength.

He added that Syria is transitioning “from a country led by individuals to a country led by its people,” and that Aleppo’s economic, social and cultural role is essential.

He praised recent fundraising efforts for the city, calling Aleppo “always number one,” and encouraged continued charitable and development initiatives aimed at improving services and supporting long‑term recovery.

Shar’a said Aleppo’s importance includes both the city and its countryside, noting what he described as its significant contribution to the “blessed Syrian revolution.” He concluded by saying Aleppo “will always hold its head high.”
