FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Growthfund, the National Fund of Greece, and the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works (MTCW) of Cyprus signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Athens to enhance cooperation in port infrastructure development.
The agreement, signed by MTCW Permanent Secretary Dr. Marina Ioannou Hassapi, Growthfund CEO Ioannis Papachristou, and Deputy CEO Panagiotis Stampoulidis, aims to facilitate the exchange of expertise and data for the management and modernization of ports in both countries. Under the MoU, Growthfund will support Cyprus in planning and implementing sustainable port development initiatives, beginning with the port and marina of Larnaka.
The fund, which oversees Greek port development, will conduct a pilot study for Larnaka’s infrastructure and propose strategies for its optimal expansion.
Dr. Hassapi emphasized the agreement’s significance, stating that Larnaka’s transformation into a modern and sustainable port will bring economic and community benefits.
Stampoulidis highlighted the collaboration’s role in advancing the Blue Economy in the Southeastern Mediterranean, reinforcing regional development, and creating jobs through reinvestment in port infrastructure.
