Traffic accidents in Cyprus surged by 21% in 2024, placing the country among the highest increases in the European Union, according to data released last week by the European Commission.
The figures that a total of 19,940 people died in road accidents across Europe last year.
Cyprus recorded one of the steepest year-on-year rises in traffic-related fatalities, prompting renewed concerns over road safety and enforcement across the island.
