FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – The US Environmental Protection Agency on Thursday canceled a $7 billion solar energy grant program designed to help more than 900,000 low-income U.S. households reduce electricity costs.

The move marks a major rollback of clean energy initiatives launched under the Biden administration.

The program, known as Solar for All, was part of the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act and aimed to fund rooftop solar installations and community solar gardens across the country.

Only $53 million of the allocated funds had been spent before the program was terminated, according to Atlas Public Policy.

EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin said the agency no longer has the legal authority to administer the program following passage of the Trump administration’s new tax-and-spending law, which eliminated the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund.
