FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – A team of American experts began an on-site investigation Thursday at the origin point of a devastating wildfire that broke out two weeks ago in the mountainous region of Limassol, west of the village of Mallia.
The specialists arrived in Cyprus at the request of President Nikos Christodoulides to help determine the cause of the blaze, which scorched large swaths of forest and prompted widespread evacuations.
“We intend to work as effectively as possible to provide the answers the government is seeking,” the team leader said.
The group, which landed in Cyprus on Wednesday, visited the fire’s suspected starting point in the afternoon, accompanied by members of the Cyprus Police and Fire Service.
