FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Canada’s decision to impose tariffs on electricity exports to the Midwestern states of the US has prompted a swift response from the White House and President Donald Trump.
In a social media post, Trump announced that he will immediately impose an additional 25% tariff on steel and aluminum imports from Ottawa. This new tariff will be added to the existing 25% tariff, which has been “frozen” until April 2. Starting tomorrow, the total tariff on these imports will be 50%.
With these tariffs, Canada now faces the highest US tariffs on steel and aluminum in the world. Despite market reactions, the Oval Office shows no intention of backing down on this issue.
