The Trump administration is laying off all direct employees of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) worldwide and giving them 30 days to return home.
The exception is employees who are considered critical personnel, according to reports.
A notice posted online Tuesday gives workers 30 days to return home, upending the aid agency’s 60-year history of overseas missions.
Thousands of USAID employees have already been laid off, and programs around the world have been shut down after President Donald Trump imposed a sweeping freeze on foreign aid.
