The British Chamber of Commerce in Turkey said Wednesday that a new free trade agreement between Turkey and the United Kingdom is likely to enter into force in the second half of 2026.

BCCT Chairman Chris Gaunt said negotiations have reached a third stage and the deal will expand to cover more sectors, strengthening bilateral economic ties. He noted Turkey’s strong export potential and the attractiveness of the UK market, particularly for technology and startup firms seeking financing and expertise.

Gaunt said the UK is Turkey’s seventh‑largest investor, with bilateral trade currently valued at about $26 billion and expected to grow. He estimated Turkey accounts for roughly 60% of the trade balance through exports to the UK.

He added that the agreement, once finalized, will boost investor confidence and open opportunities in areas such as technology, fintech and construction, reinforcing what he described as already strong relations between the two countries.
