The indefinite strike by the Turkish Cypriot Port and Vehicle Workers’ Union (Liman-Sen) at the ports of Famagusta and Kyrenia persists as workers protest unpaid salaries and unmet collective bargaining agreements.
Liman-Sen President Ajdan Bilgiç told TAK that striking workers have been barred from Famagusta Port since last evening, with handling services allegedly performed “illegally” by ship agency employees or external individuals.
Bilgiç emphasized that company law mandates port workers for handling services and criticized the employment of uninsured and untrained personnel, calling on the ‘Ministry of Labor and Social Security and the Department of Labor’ for intervention.
