Russian President Vladimir Putin has criticized major Western media outlets, accusing them of using their dominant position to shape global narratives under the guise of objectivity.
Speaking at an event marking the 20th anniversary of RT, Russia’s international television network, Putin said Western propaganda today resembles “Soviet-era clichés.”
“Any monopoly inevitably comes to an end sooner or later, no matter how much those who maintain it pay to preserve it,” he said.
RT, which launched in 2005, broadcasts in six languages and operates multilingual digital platforms.
The network has faced bans and restrictions in several Western countries, where it is accused of spreading disinformation and acting as a Kremlin mouthpiece.
RT denies the claims, asserting it offers a “truthful” alternative to mainstream Western coverage.
