FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – The United States conducted an airstrike targeting ISIS operatives in northeastern Somalia’s Puntland region, killing several fighters, according to a statement from the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM).
The strike, carried out on Saturday, occurred south of Bosasso and was coordinated with the Somali government. AFRICOM reported no civilian casualties in the operation.
This airstrike is part of ongoing counter-terrorism efforts in the region, where ISIS has been gaining influence despite being smaller in scale compared to the Al-Qaeda-linked group Al-Shabaab.
The operation underscores the continued focus on addressing extremist threats in Somalia.
