WARSAW, Poland  — A 44-year-old Ukrainian man wanted by German authorities in connection with the 2022 Nord Stream pipeline sabotage has been arrested in Poland, Polish radio reported Monday.

The suspect had been sought since June 2024 but reportedly fled from Poland to Ukraine before being apprehended.

The Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines, designed to transport Russian natural gas to Germany, were severely damaged by multiple explosions near the Danish island of Bornholm in the Baltic Sea in September 2022.

Another suspect, also a Ukrainian national and professional diver, was previously arrested in Italy. An Italian court has ordered his extradition to Germany, though he denies any involvement in the sabotage.

Ukrainian officials have denied responsibility for the attack. However, U.S. intelligence sources told The New York Times that evidence points toward Ukrainian involvement.
