U.N. Secretary‑General Antonio Guterres on Friday condemned a deadly attack on a mosque in the Syrian city of Homs, his spokesperson said.

The blast struck during Friday prayers at the Ali Bin Abi Talib mosque in the Wadi al‑Dahab neighborhood, according to a statement from spokesperson Stephane Dujarric.

Guterres said attacks on civilians and places of worship are unacceptable and called for those responsible to be identified and brought to justice.

“The Secretary‑General extends his condolences to the families of those killed and expresses his sympathy to all those injured, wishing them a prompt and full recovery,” the statement said.

Syria’s health authorities said the death toll from the explosion has risen to eight.
