Venezuelan Communication and Information Minister Freddy Nanez on Sunday condemned what he called a “war crime” in reference to a U.S. attack on the country earlier this month.

Speaking at an international cultural event, Nanez said the global cultural community bears historical responsibility amid rising violence and the erosion of international law.

He argued that stigmatization of Venezuela is driven by economic interests tied to its natural resources rather than ideology, citing past examples of foreign interference in other nations.

Nanez said hostility toward Venezuela has intensified since 2019 through sanctions, covert operations and the “illegal appropriation” of state assets, adding that “Venezuela will not surrender.”

He urged poets, artists and intellectuals worldwide to take ethical and active responsibility in defending the self-determination of nations.
