FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE — The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is laying off 20 percent of its workforce following a $58 million budget shortfall caused by U.S. foreign aid cuts.
The United States, historically the largest contributor to humanitarian efforts, has reduced funding under President Donald Trump’s administration.
OCHA plans to scale back operations in several countries, including Cameroon, Colombia, Pakistan, and Zimbabwe, as part of its restructuring efforts.
The agency continues to face rising humanitarian needs amid global crises, highlighting the impact of reduced donor support.
