FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE BYGONES – A house in Kato Pyrgos village was struck by lightning during a fierce thunderstorm yesterday afternoon, leaving a 50-year-old woman and her 22-year-old daughter hospitalized for shock.
Mrs. Maria Michael and her daughter Yiannoula Alexiou were inside the home when a loud crack signaled lightning hitting the roof.
Part of the roof collapsed into the room below, causing damage to furniture and fittings.
Torrential rain and thunderstorms battered the Tilliria area for hours, intensifying the ordeal.
The two were taken to Pendayia Hospital for treatment, as local residents assessed the damage caused by the extreme weather conditions.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation in the affected areas.
