FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya has said that 3,913 traffic accidents occurred across Turkey during the Kurban Bayramı holiday, resulting in 44 deaths at the scene and 6,370 injuries.
Yerlikaya noted that the victims had committed 54 separate traffic violations, with 48.1% linked to speeding, 18.5% to improper lane changes, 14.9% to failure to yield, 3.7% to illegal turns, 1.8% to rear-end collisions, and 13% to other infractions.
He said 18 of the fatalities occurred in urban areas, while 26 were recorded outside city limits.
Fatal accidents were significantly lower on highways where radar enforcement was conducted at 30- to 35-kilometer intervals.
