FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Türkiye’s government has dismissed reports claiming it had dispatched aircraft carrying weapons to Pakistan, amid escalating tensions between Islamabad and New Delhi.

The Directorate of Communications clarified on social media platform X that a single Turkish transport plane had landed in Pakistan solely for refueling before continuing its journey.

The denial coincided with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s call for restraint between India and Pakistan. “We want the escalating tensions between Pakistan and India to be de-escalated as soon as possible, before they evolve into a more serious situation,” Erdogan said after a cabinet meeting in Ankara. He emphasized Türkiye’s commitment to avoiding new conflicts in the region.

The remarks follow a deadly attack in Indian-controlled Kashmir last Tuesday, where unknown assailants killed at least 25 people. India accused Pakistan of involvement and announced measures including suspending participation in the Indus Waters Treaty, closing border crossings, and expelling Pakistani diplomats.

Pakistan’s Senate rejected the allegations, warning it would respond forcefully to any attempts to alter water flows governed by the treaty. Meanwhile, exchanges of fire between Indian and Pakistani forces were reported along the Line of Control over the weekend, further heightening tensions.
