FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Dozens of hunters staged a protest outside the British Bases Police Station over the weekend, demanding strict penalties for three Turkish Cypriots accused of stealing livestock.
The suspects were allegedly caught in the act of stealing sheep and goats in the village of Xylofagou.
Protesters claim the individuals are linked to a broader criminal ring suspected of stealing cars and hunting dogs across Paphos, Limassol, and other regions.
The United Cypriot Hunters Movement, which organized the demonstration, is calling for the suspects to be handed over to Cypriot authorities for further investigation.
British Bases police officer Konstantinos Petrou said the protesters gathered to commend officers for detaining the suspects. The case is being investigated in cooperation with Cypriot law enforcement.
The movement has called for full police involvement, arguing that livestock and property thefts remain a major concern for hunters and rural communities.
