FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Cyprus Civil Defense on Wednesday issued public safety recommendations following a red alert from the Meteorological Department, warning of extreme heat between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Authorities advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel, strenuous outdoor activity, sunbathing and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. Crowded areas should also be avoided.

Officials recommended wearing light-colored, loose-fitting clothing, using hats for sun protection and wearing high-quality sunglasses to reduce glare.

Citizens were also urged to eat light meals rich in fruits and vegetables, drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol.

The agency warned against sudden temperature changes and encouraged the use of fans or air conditioning.

Civil Defense also advised individuals to consult their doctors for any health concerns and to check on elderly or vulnerable relatives and neighbors who may require assistance.
