Cyprus has received praise from European Union leadership for its role in delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza, following an August shipment sent from the port of Limassol.

The commendation came during a plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, where the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza was under discussion.

EU High Representative Kaja Kallas expressed gratitude to Cyprus for its contribution, highlighting the importance of coordinated efforts among member states. She noted that while the EU has taken steps to address the crisis, current measures remain insufficient. “What has been done so far is not enough,” Kallas said, calling for expanded support and faster action to combat famine and displacement in the region.

The aid shipment, part of the Amalthea initiative, included over 1,200 tonnes of essential supplies and was delivered via Ashdod before reaching Gaza. Cyprus’s involvement has been viewed as a model of logistical cooperation and regional solidarity.

As the humanitarian situation in Gaza deteriorates, EU officials continue to push for broader engagement and more robust relief strategies. Cyprus’s role, though modest in scale, has drawn attention for its timeliness and effectiveness.
