Three of the five Greek Cypriots detained in the north of Cyprus have been conditionally released, according to reports from Turkish Cypriot media.

The military court overseeing the case ruled that the trio may remain free pending trial.

The case has taken a new turn following claims by the detainees’ attorney, who alleged that the arrest was politically motivated.

He said the group was targeted because one of its members had previously filed a complaint against Simon Aykut, an Israeli national accused of illegally acquiring Greek Cypriot property in the north.

The lawyer accused the Turkish Cypriot police of orchestrating the arrests to shield Aykut, describing the charges as fabricated.

The lead investigator in the case denied the allegations.

As part of their release conditions, the three men must post bail of 200,000 Turkish lira each, comply with travel restrictions, and report weekly to local police stations.

The remaining two detainees are scheduled to appear Friday before the district court in Famagusta, also under the jurisdiction of the Turkish Cypriot administration.
