Cyprus’s Cyprus Handicraft Service is inviting applications from artists working in contemporary crafts as it prepares to take a national pavilion to the 8th “Révélations” International Biennale of Fine Crafts and Creation in Paris next year.
The event, held at the Grand Palais from 19 to 23 May 2027, has been staged since 2013 by Ateliers d’Art de France and is one of the leading international trade fairs dedicated to contemporary craft, giving makers from around the world the chance to exhibit and sell their work to an international audience.
It will be Cyprus’s third appearance at the fair.
Officials said the aim was to showcase how both Cypriot artists and international creators based on the island draw inspiration from the culture of the wider eastern Mediterranean, and to tell a story of connection between skilled makers and the layered cultural influences surrounding them — whether expressed through technique or recalled through memory.
The pavilion is also intended to highlight Cyprus’s position at the crossroads of three continents, where artistic and cultural influences from across the region have long converged.
Given the fair’s strongly commercial character, all works submitted must be for sale, with prices expected to range from €300 to €20,000.
Applicants are asked to submit original, distinctive work spanning fields such as glass, wood, textiles and fibre, ceramics, metalwork, stone, leather and paper. Clothing and accessories are discouraged, organisers said, as they tend to hold less appeal for the fair’s collectors and audience than works in stone, wood, ceramics, textiles or jewellery — though proposals may draw on existing portfolios or be created specifically for the event.
A three-member panel appointed by the Deputy Minister of Culture will carry out an initial shortlisting, before submitting the list to “Révélations”‘ own Artistic Coordination Committee for final selection; that committee reserves the right to reject applicants who have taken part in previous editions of the fair.
Selected artists will have their transport costs to and from Paris covered by the Cyprus Handicraft Service, along with exhibition design and promotional expenses, though not the cost of producing new works. Each participating artist will also receive a €700 fee.
Applications will be accepted from 12 August to 10 September 2026, with a shortlist submitted to the Paris committee by the end of September and a final decision expected in the following weeks. Applicants should send a digital portfolio of at least six representative works (up to 5MB), a short concept description, an outline of techniques and materials used, and a brief artist’s biography, in Greek and/or English, to cyprus.handicraft@culture.gov.cy.
