Motorcycle accidents resulting in death or injury have increased significantly in Turkey, particularly during the summer months, according to traffic data from national police and gendarmerie authorities.
In the first eight months of last year, 65,291 such accidents were recorded.
August saw the highest number with 10,493 incidents, followed by July with 10,101 and June with 9,701. February had the fewest, with 2,053.
This year, the same period saw a notable rise. Police jurisdictions reported 71,604 accidents, while gendarmerie areas recorded 4,558. The data confirms a seasonal spike, with August again leading at 12,655 accidents, followed by July with 12,067 and June with 11,082. February remained the lowest month, with 5,556 incidents.
A year-over-year comparison between January and August shows a 17 percent increase in motorcycle accidents nationwide.
