Trump Halts Trade Talks With Canada Over Reagan Ad Dispute

President Donald Trump said Thursday he is ending all trade negotiations with Canada, accusing the country of misrepresenting former President Ronald Reagan in an ad campaign opposing U.S. tariffs.

“Based on their unfriendly behavior, ALL TRADE NEGOTIATIONS WITH CANADA ARE HEREBY TERMINATED,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The ad, reportedly aired in Canada, features excerpts from a 1987 Reagan radio address promoting free trade. Trump called the ad false and said it was intended to influence U.S. court decisions on trade policy.

The announcement came shortly after Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said Canada would double exports to non-U.S. markets in response to Trump’s tariff threats.
