India’s IndiGo airline cancelled all domestic flights departing from Delhi on Friday, citing operational disruptions linked to staffing shortages and new pilot duty regulations.
Delhi airport confirmed the cancellations, which come after the Directorate General of Civil Aviation flagged a lack of ground staff at Terminal 1 amid a surge in stranded passengers. IndiGo apologized to affected customers in a separate statement.
The airline has faced mounting chaos over the past four days, reportedly due to poor planning around new flight duty rules that increase mandatory weekly rest for pilots from 36 to 48 hours.
More than 500 flights were cancelled Friday, leaving tens of thousands of passengers facing delays and rising travel costs.
