Russia’s nuclear power plants generated 218.35 billion kWh of electricity in 2025, a 1.3 percent increase from the previous year, national operator Rosenergoatom has confirmed.
The Balakovo plant contributed more than 35.5 billion kWh, followed by the Rostov plant with 34 billion kWh and the Kalinin plant with 33 billion kWh, according to the operator.
Rosenergoatom said the record output was driven largely by reduced maintenance downtime.
By cutting power‑unit outages by 149 days through production‑system tools developed by state nuclear corporation Rosatom, the company generated an additional 3.3 billion kWh in 2025.
Rosatom’s power division is Russia’s largest producer of low‑carbon electricity. Its managing entity, Rosenergoatom Concern, operates 11 nuclear plants, including the world’s only floating facility.
Nuclear power accounts for about 19 percent of Russia’s total electricity generation, with 33 units providing a combined installed capacity of 28.5 GW.
