The European Commission will provide 500,000 doses of foot‑and‑mouth disease vaccine in the coming weeks to support efforts to contain the outbreak in the Turkish Cypriot community, officials said Wednesday.
In a statement, the Commission said all vulnerable livestock will be vaccinated as part of a broader prevention and containment strategy.
The decision follows the detection of cases in the occupied village of Lapathos in December.
The European Union has already supplied diagnostic tests, disinfectants, protective equipment and funding to strengthen local veterinary services through its Aid Programme for the Turkish Cypriot community.
