Justice Minister Kostas Fytiris on Monday announced a series of measures aimed at tackling organized crime, outlining plans that include the confiscation of unexplained assets, the creation of a new prison system and the establishment of an independent coast guard.

Speaking at a press conference, Fytiris said the government intends to build a modern correctional facility outside the urban area within the next five years. The new system, he noted, will have a capacity of 1,250 inmates and will include a closed prison, semi‑open and open units, as well as structured reintegration programs.

The minister added that the plan also includes strengthening the Fire Service with drones and other equipment needed for wildfire management.

Referring to allegations made by Ioanna Fotiou, known publicly as “Anni Alexoui,” regarding her personal experiences and claims related to organized crime, Fytiris said all information is being evaluated.
