Cyprus will establish direct air links with Kazakhstan for the first time next year, a move the Deputy Ministry of Tourism says will strengthen the island’s connectivity with key foreign markets.

In a statement, the ministry said Air Astana will begin scheduled flights in early June 2026, connecting Larnaca Airport with Astana and Almaty, Kazakhstan’s capital and largest city.

The airline plans two weekly flights from Astana on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and two from Almaty on Thursdays and Sundays.

The ministry described the development as “historic,” noting that Cyprus has never before had direct routes to a Central Asian country.

Deputy Tourism Minister Kostas Koumis said opening new markets is a priority for the government.

He called the launch of direct flights “a clear success” that will benefit tourism and, over time, other sectors of the economy.

Koumis added that Kazakhstan — the largest economy in Central Asia — has strong potential as a long‑term tourism market for Cyprus, while also offering Cypriots an additional travel destination.

He said Cyprus must now ensure high‑quality hospitality for Kazakh visitors and deepen bilateral cooperation in tourism.
