Health Minister Neofytos Charalambides reaffirmed the government’s commitment to upgrading infrastructure, medical equipment and services across Cyprus’ public hospitals during a visit to Nicosia General Hospital, his first since taking office.
Charalambides said he held a series of meetings with department and clinic directors to discuss operations, needs and challenges at the country’s largest public hospital.
He also toured several wards, speaking with medical, nursing and paramedical staff.
Asked about issues raised during the visit, the minister said patient complaints remain relatively low overall.

Charalambides noted that the government is implementing more than €145 million in infrastructure‑upgrade projects aimed at improving facilities and services in all public hospitals.
Responding to questions about seasonal infections, he said the State Health Services Organisation (OKYPY) reports that the situation is manageable.
He added that increased attendance at Accident and Emergency departments is a recurring pattern during winter months, and that the current epidemiological picture is similar to — or slightly better than — last year.
