Cyprus is preparing to introduce gender‑responsive budgeting across the entire public sector, supported by new legislation, policy reforms and specialised training for government officials, the Commissioner for Gender Equality has said.
Josie Christodoulou noted that the Cabinet has already approved and submitted to parliament the 2025 Gender Mainstreaming Bill, which will embed gender equality into policy‑making and the preparation of the state budget.
The proposed legislation would require gender considerations to be integrated into the design of policies, actions, legislative initiatives and the national budget, as well as into public procurement procedures.
