The Palestinian embassy in Cyprus has condemned recent decisions announced by the Israeli government regarding the occupied West Bank, describing them as a dangerous escalation of what it called an ongoing policy of unlawful annexation.
The embassy said the acceleration of settlement activity and the extension of Israeli administrative control in areas such as Hebron and Bethlehem amounted to de facto annexation and “ethnic cleansing”.
Earlier this month, Israel’s security cabinet approved a series of measures that will make it easier for settlers to purchase land in the occupied West Bank and grant Israeli authorities broader enforcement powers over Palestinians.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said the measures were dangerous and urged Donald Trump and the United Nations to intervene.
