President Nikos Christodoulides will meet with Cyprus’ major trade unions next Wednesday, Feb. 25, after accepting a request submitted by SEK, PEO and DEOK.
SEK Secretary‑General Andreas Matsas told CNA that the unions’ letter outlined four issues they want discussed: improving the minimum wage and its hourly calculation, extending collective agreements in line with the EU directive, and revising the strategy for employing workers from third countries. He said there have been “serious complaints” about irregular approvals of work permits for foreign labor.
The fourth topic, Matsas added, concerns the implementation of the Erganis 2 digital system, which unions say is needed to better regulate the labor market.
