Cyprus’ Department of Agriculture has said it is satisfied that the Aradippou municipality has begun installing vehicle disinfection units after receiving official recommendations aimed at limiting the spread of foot‑and‑mouth disease.
Following the Aradippou guidance, the department has issued written instructions to all local authorities responsible for livestock areas, urging them to adopt additional biosecurity measures to reinforce those already required of farmers.
The department has also contacted the district administrations of Larnaca, Limassol and Paphos, asking them to implement similar precautions in livestock zones under their jurisdiction. The instructions call for two disinfection points — a tank or automated system — at every livestock area, one at the entrance and one at the exit. Any additional access points must be closed so that all movement passes through the designated sanitation sites.
Construction specifications for the disinfection units have been sent to all local authorities, and the Ministry of Agriculture will cover the cost.
