The Forestry Department has said that the drying and death of trees seen in Athalassa National Forest Park is not an isolated incident and is unrelated to any failure by state services.
Officials said the problem is occurring across Cyprus and is linked to climate‑change impacts, prolonged drought, severe dry conditions and high temperatures.
The department said it is taking measures that include removing dead and hazardous trees, installing traps to monitor and control wood‑boring insects, and expanding the use of recycled water to support vegetation.
