Cyprus police carried out targeted overnight operations across the island, resulting in seven arrests for offenses including illegal possession of a firearm, unlawful stay in the Republic and impersonation, authorities said Tuesday.

The coordinated patrols focused on key urban areas and aimed to prevent serious crime, maintain public order and strengthen the public’s sense of security, the police said.

During the operations, officers stopped and checked 294 drivers and passengers. Police also conducted 18 inspections of premises, issuing three citations for various violations.

Traffic enforcement led to 125 citations for road‑safety offenses, including 49 for speeding. Four vehicles were seized, and five additional traffic cases are under investigation.

Police said the intensified patrols and targeted checks will continue daily as part of broader efforts to prevent and suppress crime and ensure public safety.
