Cyprus Police have warned the public to be on their guard against fraudulent text messages that falsely claim to come from the force, demanding payment for supposed traffic offences.
The messages, sent by SMS, wrongly present themselves as official communications from Cyprus Police concerning alleged traffic violations or fixed penalty notices.
Each contains a link that recipients are urged to click in order to process or pay the fine online.

Police said the messages were “a scam”, and reminded the public that the force does not send text messages containing links for the payment of fines or penalties of any kind.
Members of the public were advised not to click on any link contained in such messages, not to enter personal, banking or other sensitive details, and to delete the message immediately.
