Police are investigating after a human body was discovered in a remote and rugged coastal area of the Akamas peninsula.
A 48‑year‑old fisherman spotted the remains at around 5:45 a.m. along the shoreline in the Tzionia area. The body was found about three meters from the water and was in an advanced state of decomposition.
Officers from the Paphos Police Directorate and a marine police vessel responded to the scene, cordoned off the area and began examinations.
Police spokesperson Kyriakos Theodorou said the remains appear to belong to an adult man of unknown identity.
The condition of the body makes both identification and an initial assessment of the circumstances of death difficult. According to ANT1, the clothing was torn and heavily worn, and authorities are not ruling out the possibility that the man had previously been reported missing.
A post‑mortem examination will be carried out at a later stage to determine the cause of death.
