Storm causes damage in occupied Trikomo area, sparking fire and water disruption

A severe storm and strong winds caused significant damage and disruption in the occupied Trikomo area over the weekend, centred on the villages of Agios Iakovos and Arnadi.

According to a statement from the Trikomo “municipality”, reproduced by Turkish Cypriot online media, the gale-force winds damaged the building housing the Agios Iakovos-Mandres hunting association. In Arnadi, fallen power poles sparked a small fire, which was quickly extinguished by fire crews.

During the firefighting operation, a main water pipe was ruptured, temporarily cutting off the water supply to the community until the damage could be repaired.

In addition, coastal areas were evacuated as a precautionary safety measure, while residents were advised to avoid unnecessary travel, as crews remained on standby to assess the damage and restore the affected networks.
