FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – The Secretary General of Akel, Stefanos Stefanou, has urged the government to demand the European Union lift its commitment to impose green taxation, arguing that Cyprus is under no obligation to enforce it.
Stefanou criticized the previous government for voluntarily accepting this commitment.
Speaking during a tour of villages in the mountainous Limassol region, Stefanou warned that green taxation would significantly raise the cost of energy, waste, and water.
He highlighted widespread public concern over high electricity and fuel prices, as well as the looming green tax.
Stefanou reiterated his call for a reduction in VAT on electricity, emphasizing the need for measures to alleviate the financial burden on citizens.
