Passenger traffic across the 14 regional airports run by Fraport Greece continued its steady upward trend in the first seven months of 2026, underscoring the strength of Greek tourism this year.
Total passenger numbers reached 20,575,377 between January and July, up 5.4% on the same period last year (19,521,178). The bulk of the increase came from international travel, which rose 5.2% to 15,993,680 passengers, while domestic traffic climbed 6% to 4,581,697. The airports handled 160,274 flights in total, up 5.9%, comprising 108,042 international flights (up 5.3%) and 52,232 domestic flights (up 7%).
July, as usual, was the peak month of the summer season, with 6,923,971 passengers passing through the airports, of whom 5,966,497 arrived from abroad. The month saw 50,152 aircraft movements, up 4.8%, including 39,311 international flights.
Thessaloniki led the network for the seven-month period with 4,607,052 passengers (up 5.4%) across 35,813 flights, followed by Rhodes with 3,810,492 passengers (up 3.4%) — though Rhodes topped the rankings for July alone, with 1.33 million passengers. Corfu recorded 2,541,721 passengers (up 7.9%), Chania 2,411,476 (up 9.5%) and Santorini 1,332,574 (up 5.7%).
The sharpest percentage growth came from smaller islands: Samos (up 11.9%) and Skiathos (up 11.4%) posted the largest passenger increases over the seven months, while Kavala recorded the biggest rise in flights, up 17.3%. In July alone, Skiathos (up 12.0%), Samos (up 10.9%) and Kefalonia (up 9.7%) led passenger growth.
Kos was the only airport to see an overall passenger decline over the seven-month period, down 0.7% to 1,585,747, while Mytilene was the sole airport to post a July decline in both passengers (down 1.3%) and flights (down 1.7%).
By nationality, the UK remained the leading source market in July with 1,431,733 passengers across 8,678 flights, followed by domestic Greek travel with 957,474 passengers, Germany with 860,140, Italy with 742,009 and Poland with 419,647. The Netherlands, France, Israel, Denmark and Austria rounded out the top ten source markets.
