Cyprus recorded the European Union’s second-highest rate of asylum applications relative to its population in the first half of 2026, according to figures reported by the newspaper Haravgi.
Citing data from the EU Asylum Agency, the paper said Cyprus ranked behind only Greece among the bloc’s member states.
Cyprus recorded 1,732 applications per million people in the period, more than double the EU average of 710.
