The National Council meets at 10:00, with the President of the Republic informing political leaders about the latest developments in the Cyprus problem.

The meeting takes place at the conclusion of the contacts of the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Rosemary DiCarlo, in Nicosia, Athens and Ankara, in the context of the preparation of the informal expanded meeting in Geneva next month.

The President will provide an update on the preparatory work that is underway, while Nicosia awaits information from Mrs. Di Carlo about her decisive contacts yesterday in Ankara.

In a post on social media, Rosemary Di Carlo emphasizes that Turkey’s role, as one of the three guarantor powers in the Cyprus problem, remains critical.

According to sources from the Turkish Foreign Ministry,  Deputy Foreign Minister Mehmet Kemal Bozai,  reiterated to Rosemary Di Carlo the unacceptable demand for a two-state solution in Cyprus.

He reported at the same time that Ankara is continuing preparations for a constructive contribution to the informal meeting, which – according to diplomatic circles – is expected to take place on March 17 and 18.
